FOREST CITY WELCOMES LEAD FOR NORTH CAROLINA FELLOW

Forest City, NC: The Town of Forest City is pleased to welcome Elias Henderson as a Lead for North Carolina Fellow.  Henderson began his fellowship with the Town of Forest City on August 1, 2024 and will work alongside Town Planner Preston Janco through June 2025 to assist with the administration of zoning ordinance and code enforcement.

Henderson is one of 38 recent graduates selected for the sixth cohort for the Lead for North Carolina Fellowship, a program designed to recruit and train emerging leaders by placing them in various local government roles across North Carolina. He is a 2024 cum laude graduate of Davidson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arab Studies which includes Arabic, Political Science, and Art History.  During his undergraduate years, Henderson spent six months abroad in Amman, Jordan, where he attended the Qasid Language Institute and the Middlebury Abroad School to concentrate on Arabic studies, media, and politics.  Recently, Henderson worked as a communications intern for New York City councilman Shaun Abreu’s office.  In addition to providing valuable support with written communication for Representative Abreu, Henderson was also actively engaged in various research projects and policy proposals during his internship with the New York City Council.

During his fellowship with the Town of Forest City, Henderson will work closely with the town planner to assist in the development and implementation of various planning projects, help provide technical assistance to the Forest City Board of Planning and Adjustment, assist and lead grant applications, and work to enforce and uphold local town ordinances in collaboration with code enforcement.

At Forest City’s town council meeting on August 5, Henderson expressed his eagerness to work for the Town of Forest City.  “I am very excited to be working in a small town where I get to meet people and have a big impact,” he commented.  “I am looking forward to all that we can do together.”
